The Pete Bates Project exists to make connected patterns easier to recognise, explain and act on before the harm is reduced to another isolated incident.
Why the project exists
Serious patterns are often made invisible by the way they are described.
People living with coercive control often carry years of detail. Systems ask for a short account. The story becomes fragmented, the pattern disappears, and the person explaining it is treated as confused or overly emotional.
Our work starts at that translation failure. We build practical language for recognising the method, connecting the repetition and explaining the effect without turning a person’s life into spectacle.
Belinda’s work names adaptation from the inside. Pete’s work examines the behavioural pattern and the way institutions read it. Together, the project connects lived reality with language that can travel.

02 Protection
We were meant to be the shelter,

Protection is not measured by what we say we intended. It is measured by the atmosphere women and children had to live inside.
